A Kerry county councillor is calling for funding to carry out works on bridges especially on those where there have been fatalities.

Councillor Michael Cahill claimed some bridges are being washed away or could fall down under trucks.

Kerry County Council is currently working with Transport Infrastructure Ireland to identify bridges in need of works.

The council is acting as the lead authority for Kerry, Cork and Clare for bridge rehabilitation and the N23 Dysert Bridge, N70 Ballynamona Bridge and N72 Beheenagh Bridge have been selected for works.

Minor works will be carried out on another 12 locations.
