Kerry County Council is to embark on an awareness campaign about the mortgage-to-rent scheme.
The scheme is a government initiative to help homeowners who are at risk of losing their homes.
There is just one completed mortgage to rent case in Kerry and that was through Clúid Housing Association.
Another mortgage-to-rent case is under consideration by Kerry County Council at present.
A spokesperson for Kerry County Council believes the low uptake is down to a lack of awareness.
The council is also urging people in mortgage difficulty to contact the council as the mortgage to rent scheme could be an option for them.
There could be more MTR cases in the county completed by financial institutions; however banks do not generally provide a geographical breakdown of cases.
Earlier this year, Fianna Fáil senator Mark Daly called the mortgage-to-rent scheme in the county a shambles.
Kerry County Council will shortly be writing to people to make them aware of the scheme.
