KCC logoKerry County Council has received a number of requests to upgrade lighting throughout the county.

At the South & West Kerry Municipal District monthly meeting, two County Councillors raised the issue of poor lighting systems, and requested the installation of more street lights.

Councillor Johnny Healy-Rae put forward the motion to install street lights outside the hospital in Dingle, while Councillor Patrick Connor-Scarteen asked that a solitary street light be placed outside the new graveyard in Kenmare.

In response, Kerry County Council says due to the constraints on maintaining the existing public lighting network, they are not in a position to fund the provision of additional lighting.

Councillor Johnny Healy-Rae also put forward the motion for the council to introduce a ‘common sense lighting policy’, as the current one is unworkable.

Kerry County Council says a public lighting policy is listed for consideration by its members at the May Council meeting.
