Kerry County Council intends to acquire the land to realign the Kilderry Bends on the N70 between Killorglin and Milltown.

The €10m project involves the construction of a new 3.5km road from near Kennedy’s Cross at Tinahalla to Knockavota near Milltown graveyard.

The townlands named in the notice include Tinnahally, Kilderry North, Kilderry South, Knockagarrane, Knockavota and Kilcolman.

Five of the affected landowners had objected to the CPO but four withdrew their objections before a scheduled oral hearing in Killarney in May.

A fifth withdrew his objection, following discussions with Kerry County Council, on the morning the hearing was due to take place.

The order authorities the council to now acquire the land and to extinguish any existing public rights of way.

It will become operative three weeks after its publication.
