At the moment they’ve 30 agreed; last year the council bought 35 houses.
The local authority also plans to build 12 single rural dwellings between now and 2019.
In a question to Kerry County Council, Independent Cllr Johnny Healy Rae asked how many single rural dwellings the council will build in the next 18 months, and how many private houses they bought in the last 12 months.
The council says they’ve a target for 2016 of 40 house purchases, and at the moment they’ve agreed 30 – these sales will be closed before the end of the year, provided documentation and legal matters are in order.
They say they’re actively pursuing purchases and are confident they’ll achieve their target of 40.
When it comes to constructing single rural dwellings, the council intends to build 12 over the course of their capital programme for 2016 to 2019.
They’re currently assessing and prioritising applications for consideration.
