Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Pat McCarthy is in the United States promoting Kerry as part of the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
On Sunday he joined Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney in the parade which was watched by in excess of 200,000 people.
Kerry County Council Cathaoirleach Pat McCarthy, accompanied by Tourism Officer John Griffin, met with Philadelphia Rose of Tralee representatives and Councilman Bobby Hennon, Majority Leader in the Philadelphia City Council.
They discussed Philadelphia police and fire services participation in the Heroes’ Week Gathering which will form part of the ‘Tralee 800’ celebrations.
Cllr McCarthy also met with Sr. Pauline McShain, heir of the McShain Estate, whose family owned Killarney House and who bequeathed Ross Castle, Lough Leane and Innisfallen Island to the Irish State.
The Cathaoirleach is due to visit Washington DC to highlight Valentia’s UNESCO project with US chief scientist Dr. Kathy Sullivan, whose ancestors hail from Lauragh near Kenmare.
Tomorrow Cllr McCarthy will participate in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York.
