Kerry County Council has been allocated over €360,000 to take 18 estates in charge.

The funding, under the National Taking in Charge Initiative for Residential Estates, will allow the council to bring the estates up to the required standard, before formally taking them in charge.

Contractors have been appointed to carry out works, which will be completed by the end of the year.

The council is also progressing the statutory process, with a view to having the estates taken in change by the end of this year or early next year.
