Kerry community groups have put contingency plans in place ahead of the proposed Garda strike on Friday.

Elderly Woman

Kilcummin Community Alert will be checking on elderly people in the parish if the action goes ahead.

Ben Brosnan of the group says they have concerns about how the strike might affect their text alert system, but he says they’re behind the gardaí’s action.

Meanwhile Kevin O’Connor, who’s the Chair of Cumann Iosaef in Tralee which helps older people with a variety of services including Meals and Wheels says they too are supporting the Gardaí.

He says a lot of their clients are concerned about what will happen on Friday if they need the service of the Gardaí, but he says Cumann Iosaef will be offering whatever support they can.
