« BackKerry club behind free-to-air campaign not surprised by likely GAA-Sky deal

gaaThe Kerry club behind a campaign  for free-to-air broadcast of all championship games has been reacting to news of an impending deal between the GAA and Sky Sports.

It’s being reported that the GAA looks set to make a deal on its main broadcast rights with RTÉ and Sky Sports for a further five years in a deal worth an estimated €55 million.

It’s expected that subscription channel Sky Sports will broadcast 14  All Ireland championship games exclusively.

Last December, the Kerry County Board passed a motion from Beale GAA club  calling on all games to be kept on free-to-air, non-subscription TV stations.

The motion was defeated at the GAA’s national Congress in February.

Maurice Mannix of Beale GAA club says he’s not surprised by the news of the likely deal but is disappointed.
