A Kerry broker is blaming the judiciary for the spiralling cost of car insurance.
Managing Director of Gallivan Murphy Hooper Dolan in Killarney, Denis Murphy says more cases are being taken to the courts instead of going through the Injuries Board.
He says judges are awarding higher amounts of compensation, which is having a massive effect on insurance premiums.
The average car insurance cover has increased to €970, and it’s expected that motorists will have to pay an additional 15 per cent by the end of the year.
Mr Murphy says the government needs to tackle this issue with the judiciary.
