astiThe Kerry representative of the ASTI says Junior Cycle reform and teachers’ pay are the main issues facing secondary school teachers.

The union is beginning its annual conference in Cork today, and says new teachers will earn around 100-thousand-euro less over their lifetime than senior colleagues hired before 2011.

Kerry ASTI representative, Matthew O’Connor, says Junior Cycle reform is still a major issue.

He says it’s not just about teachers assessing their own students, but the major difference emerging before the Junior and Leaving Certificate, especially with no higher level papers being available in several subjects.
