Kerry Airport can withstand state and EU funding cuts.

That’s according to the airport’s financial controller, Basil Sheerin.

He was responding to the government’s Airport and Aviation strategy which includes a regional airport strategy.

The three year programme includes the end of capital funding aside from safety and security measures and the phasing out of operational grants over a 10 year period.

The current public service obligation routes also end in 2018.

Basil Sheerin is confident that Kerry Airport can survive the cuts with a good business plan.
