Just 20 hours of sunshine were recorded at Valentia Observatory in the entire month of December.
That’s according to Met Eireann which has released weather statistics for last month. The south Kerry weather station reported its wettest December since 1934 when 339 millimeters of rain fell. Valentia Observatory also broke records in terms of temperatures. The lowest temperature at the station of 3.7 degrees was its highest for December in over 70 years. The highest temperature of 10 degrees equaled its highest since 1893. Valentia also reported its windiest December in 41 years with average speeds of 14.8 knots or 27 kilometres per hour.
