The main union which represents staff at IT Tralee has accused management of ‘asset-stripping.’
At its annual conference in Killarney, the Teachers’ Union of Ireland issued a directive to members not to engage in plans for the mergers of institutes of technology.
It’s planned ITs – such as IT Tralee and CIT – will be merged to become technological universities.
He also says in Tralee, there are worries that courses will be cut and some students will have to travel to Cork.
Mr Kenny says plans to sell off the IT’s south campus have been made without consulting staff.
However, the president of IT Tralee has rejected the union’s claims.
Oliver Murphy says the plan to sell off the south campus is not asset-stripping.
He says staff have always been made aware of the plan.
