A spokesperson for the Kerry Islamic Outreach Society says the development of a mosque in Tralee is a positive one for the Muslim community in the county.
Dr Rizwan Khan says that in recent years the numbers attending the existing centre in Tralee have increased significantly.
Earlier this week, planning permission for a mosque and a community centre at Killerisk, was approved by Kerry County Council.
Dr Khan says the group behind the project pursued a large site near the existing Muslim centre which was spacious and would cause minimum disruption to adjacent properties.
