kerry gaeltachtIrish language organisations have expressed disappointment with Budget 2017.

Údarás na Gaeltachta’s capital investment fund and Foras na Gaeilge’s budget have, in total, been reduced by over 50% since 2008.

Údarás na Gaeltachta is charged with creating employment in Gaeltacht areas, including the West Kerry Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht and the South Kerry Gaeltacht of Uíbh Ráthach.

There are fears Údarás will experience difficulty in creating new jobs in the Gaeltacht next year.

President of Conradh na Gaeilge Cóilín Ó Cearbhaill said the Government hadn’t provided a fair budget for the Irish language, by not reversing some of the damaging cut backs imposed since 2008.
