A woman who barricaded herself into a Tralee shop was taken safety from the scene shortly after 8pm last night.
The woman, who believed to have been carrying several knives, entered the Halal meat shop at Lower Castle Street in the town at 4pm yesterday.
Gardai were called to the scene when the woman barricaded herself into the shop armed with several knives.
There was no other civilian in the shop at the time of the incident, and staff were evacuated.
Garda negotiators were brought to the scene, and an ambulance and other emergency services were put on standby.
Traffic was diverted from the area for several hours while Gardai attempted to talk with the woman, who it’s believed is in her 30’s and from the north Cork area.
Its understood that members of her family also arrived on the scene to speak with her.
Shortly after 8pm she was taken from the scene by ambulance without incident.
