The Health Service Executive says it will progress plans for a Primary Care Centre in Rathmore in the coming months.
Deputy Healy-Rae told the Health Minister that we are now nearly two years awaiting a full GP service in Rathmore, which is proving to be a very difficult time for the elderly people of the area.
The HSE replied directly to the Kerry TD’s question stating that the GP who was successful at interview for the vacant post in Rathmore in November 2014 has faced challenges in finding appropriate premises and recruiting a locum GP.
The health centre was rearranged by the HSE for GP use every Thursday.
To meet the long term needs of the area the HSE says approval was granted last month for a new Primary Care Centre for Rathmore; this will be progressed in the coming months.
The HSE says the situation with GP recruitment in Rathmore is not uncommon but the HSE remains committed to working with the appointed GP to ensure a full-time GP presence is available in area.
Fianna Fáil deputy John Brassil has welcomed the development.
