The HSE has a ‘blatant disregard’ for the people of Rathmore.
That’s according to Fianna Fáil councillor Niall Kelleher who says the failure to appoint a new GP in the area is having huge consequences for the region.
Nine months after the GP in Rathmore retired, the area is still waiting for a replacement.
Last November 500 medical card patients were forced to transfer to Millstreet for GP care with just 24 hours notice because the retiring doctor wasn’t replaced.
A HSE comment on the matter is awaited but Cllr Niall Kelleher says there is a need for a tailored contract to take into account the social situation in rural areas.
