« BackHSE encouraging parents to ensure daughters get HPV vaccination

HSE logoThe HSE is encouraging parents to ensure their daughters get the HPV vaccination which aims to protect them from developing cervical cancer.

There’s been a 17% drop in uptake in last year.

This follows concerns being expressed by some parents of girls who have had the Gardasil vaccine, and have had illnesses they believe are linked to it.

Head of the National Immunisation Office, Dr Brenda Corcoran says Gardasil is 100% safe, and there’s no known link between it and these illnesses.

She’s urging parents to get their daughter’s vaccinated as it can prevent cervical cancer.

Dr Brenda Corcoran also says there’s been a drop off in parents availing of other vaccines for their children, which she says is very alarming.
