The young Tralee man who won gold at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles has thanked his family, friends and supporters.
A homecoming was held at the Meadowlands Hotel in Tralee last evening to honour Brendan O’Connell who took gold in the 800 metres free style swimming.
The 30-year-old also took a fourth place ribbon in the 1,500 open water swimming event.
Brendan thanked his trainer Ger McDonnell and the Kerry Stars Special Olympics club for their support.
Brendan’s grandmother couldn’t hide her pride when she spoke to Radio Kerry’s Treasa Murphy.
