« BackHeritage week gets underway across the county

heritage-week-2016-logoHeritage week begins today in the county with 50 heritage related events taking place between now and Sunday the 28th of August.

Free guided tours of heritage sites, exhibitions, outings, nature trails, lectures and tours all feature on the programme of events for the week.

The theme this year is 100 Years of Heritage, and there are a number of events taking place in Kerry to celebrate the week such as Con Colbert’s role in the 1916 Rising which takes place in Listowel and a walking tour of Medieval Tralee.

In Waterville there will be a talk on the history of Waterville’s telegraph cable station and in Ardfert Cathedral there will an illustrated talk on St Brendan and the Dingle peninsula.

Among the events in Killarney will be sheep dog trials at Muckross Traditional Farms.
