Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae believes the Government could fall over a very simple issue and he’s warned the thorny issue of Irish water hasn’t gone away.
He was speaking after the European Commission declared Ireland is not exempt from the obligation under EU law to charge for water.
Experts believe the confirmation is likely to severely limit the Government’s discretion to scrap the charges.
However Deputy Healy-Rae believes we all owe a great debt, to those who protested against water charges.
He says without them most Irish homes would now be facing water bills of between four and six hundred euros per year:
