« BackGriffin says FG leadership issue must be faced once new political term begins

Brendan GriffinFine Gael TD Brendan Griffin says the leadership issue in the party must be faced once the new political term begins.

Speaking to the Irish Independent the Kerry TD said that the party’s meeting of TD’s and senators on September 12th before the Dail returns would be an ideal opportunity to discuss the leadership of Fine Gael.

On July 11th last Deputy Griffin issued a statement urging Enda Kenny to step down and a new leader be in place before the Dail returns from the summer recess.

Mr Griffin said that while he did have a preference for who should replace Enda Kenny he would not be expressing it.

He also added that the media are portraying it as a two way contest between Simon Coveney and Leo Varadkar but that there are others in the party.
