Gardaí say they’re making good progress in the search for a man who went missing 25 years ago in south Kerry.
They began a search and excavation process at a site at Derrennageeha, Ballaghisheen Pass, Waterville yesterday, as part of the ongoing investigation into the abduction and disappearance of Charles Brooke Pickard.
Charles Brooke Pickard was 43 years of age when he was abducted at White Strand in Castlecove on the 26th of April 1991, and driven away in his van by a number of men.
Gardaí assisted by members of the Defence Forces and an anthropologist yesterday began a search and excavation of a site at Derrennageeha, Ballaghisheen Pass, less than a kilometre away from where Mr Brooke Pickard’s navy Ford Transit van was found 20 days after he went missing.
Superintendent Flor Murphy of Killarney Garda Station says while there’s a large area to cover, the search is going well, but they’re still at the stage of preparing for the excavation by removing debris and vegetation from the land.
He says conditions are favourable, and they’ll review their progress every day.
