Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an 11-month-old baby boy in Killarney.
An eleven month old baby boy was treated by medical personnel but was pronounced dead at the scene.
Its understood the alarm had been raised by the child’s mother when she returned from work.
A man in his 30s – believed to be a Polish national – was taken to University Hospital Kerry in Tralee to receive medical treatment. He is believed to be in a stable condition at the hospital.
The scene was preserved and a preliminary examination is believed to have been carried out by the Dr. Margot Bolster later in the evening.
The death is currently being treated as suspicious.
A post mortem is expected to take place this morning which Gardai say will determine the course of their investigation.
A full forensic examination of the scene will also take place.
