Killarney gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the death of a baby boy in the town.
A post mortem is being carried out on the infant this evening, while a man found at the scene remains in a stable condition in hospital in Tralee.
The 11 month old baby boy was found at an apartment at Park Place on Upper High Street, Killarney shortly before 6 o’clock last evening, when it’s believed his mother returned from work.
Emergency services were unable to save the child’s life.
A man in his 30s, believed to be a relative of the child and from Poland, was taken to University Hospital Kerry in Tralee for treatment; it’s believed he’s in a stable condition.
The baby boy’s body was removed from the scene this lunchtime for a post mortem to be carried out this evening by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster; Superintendent Flor Murphy says the results of this will dictate the course of their investigation.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, and are particularly asking anyone who was in the vicinity of Park Place Apartments between 1pm and 6pm yesterday to contact them in Killarney on 064 66 71160, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station
Superintendent Flor Murphy says gardaí will be liaising with the consulate of the man’s home country, and they’ll use all resources available to deal with this case.
