Free parking should be provided in Listowel to ease disruption to business during works on William Street.
That’s according to Fianna Fáil Cllr Jimmy Moloney who tabled a motion on the subject at the monthly meeting of Listowel Municipal District.
Cllr Moloney said free parking should be made available as a “gesture” while imminent works on William Street are carried out.
The meeting heard there are 499 free parking spaces under control of the local authority Listowel and a further 34 free parking spaces, under private ownership, available to the public.
Listowel Municipal District has recently facilitated four ‘set-down’ areas, which allow parking which is free for 15 minutes.
William Street currently has 16 parking spaces, one which is designated for the disabled.
It is proposed to designate Upper William Street, which currently has 55 parking spaces plus three which are designated for the disabled, a free parking zone during works on William Street.
Cllr Moloney added that free parking in Listowel should be advertised and possible colour-coded, to highlight availability.
