The founder of a suicide awareness charity says mental health services should not be fully state-controlled.
Mr Jim Breen, who has been appointed to the Youth Mental Health Task Force by new Mental Health Minister, Helen McEntee, says there are problem associated with state-controlled charities.
Mr Breen of Cycle Against Suicide claims what is needed is a blend of volunteer and state-funded operations.
While he says government help is needed to combat mental health issues, he claims Cycle Against Suicide could never have been created as a state organisation.
Mr Breen adds volunteers would not give the same level of commitment, if they were they being paid.
