The founder of Fathers4Justice says his decision to run on the stage during the Rose of Tralee TV selection was completely justified.
49-year-old Matt O’Connor, ran on stage during the Cavan Rose Lisa O’Reilly’s interview with Dáithí Ó Sé; he was taken to Tralee Garda Station and was later released without charge.
Mr O’Connor says the group has a responsibility to raise the issue of rights of fathers in Ireland which he says affects 100,000 children.
Mr O’Connor says this is the first of many high profile protests planned by the group.
He rejected the comparison to fears created by recent terrorist incidents:
Meanwhile, Communications Manager with the Rose of Tralee International Festival John Drummey doesn’t believe the television selection was the time or place for such a protest.
Mr Drummey praised the Cavan Rose for her composure during the incident.
