A former government minister from Kerry has been appointed to a panel which will interview those applying for refugee status in Ireland.
John O’Donoghue, who now practices as a barrister, has joined the Case Processing Panel of Legal Graduates, the Irish Independent reports.
The panel has recently been expanded and is under the remit of the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner.
The panel interviews those seeking refugee status and submits a report on the issues raised at interview.
John O’Donoghue is one of 60 people on the panel who can be called upon to interview potential refugees.
