Forensic teams are examining a hoax explosive device which led to major disruption in Caherciveen earlier.
At 25 to 9 this morning a member of the public observed what is being described as an improvised explosive device on the steps of the court house in the town ahead of a scheduled sitting of the district court. The device was wrapped in black tape and appeared to be cylindrical and wiring was visible. Gardaí immediately sealed off the area. The incident led to a road closure and evacuation of the court house, library and citizen’s information. The court sitting was held in the local community centre. Gardai are appealing for witnesses who may have observed anything suspicious this morning or during the night in the area surrounding the Courthouse.
