The introduction of foreign priests into the Diocese of Kerry is not necessarily the answer to the ever-dwindling number of priests.

That’s according to the pastoral director of the diocese, Fr Ger Godley, who was speaking after the diocesan changes were announced last Friday.

Two parishes, Duagh and Ballyheigue, will now be without resident priests

Fr Godley says bringing priests in from other countries such as Poland and Kenya is not the answer.

Fr Godley says the dwindling number of priests is providing an opportunity for lay people to get involved in their parishes, and already hundreds of people have taken courses in the Kerry diocese.
