The Irish Film Board has welcomed the decision of the Minister for the Arts to consent to the filming of Star Wars on Skellig Michael next week.
Minister Heather Humphreys announced this morning that she has cleared the way for the shoot on the UNESCO world heritage site.
Lucasfilm will return to the island for the second year running following the filming of scenes on the Skellig last summer.
Staff and crew are already in south Kerry and filming is expected to last for a few days.
In a statement, the Irish Film Board says film production in Ireland creates many benefits for Irish culture and the Irish economy.
It says that twenty per cent of all tourists to Ireland have said that their decision to visit here was influenced by film.
