A Kerry TD has welcomed the news that the Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Disabilities will visit St Mary of Angels in Beaufort.
Martin Ferris has given a guarded welcome to the assurance from Finian McGrath, that he will visit St Mary of the Angels, to meet with service users, their families and staff of the facility.
Opposition has been expressed by family members of people with intellectual disabilities who are due to be moved from St Mary of the Angels, into houses across Kerry.
The Sinn Féin TD speaking in the Dáil, said the people he had spoken with, said that there had not been any consultation with them to date.
Debuty Ferris said he hoped this would change and that Minister McGrath needs to see for himself the wonderful facilities that are in place at St Mary of the Angels.
Minister McGrath said this week he wants to assure any concerned family members that the process of moving a person with disabilities out of a congregated setting is not something that happens overnight and will be done in full consultation with all residents and their families.
