Dredging is to begin in Fenit harbour next week.
The works will involve the removal of 132,300 tonnes of material which has accumulated near the head of the pier, the eastern breakwater, the commercial berth and approaches to the inner harbour.
The material is mainly muddy silt and sand which can be dumped at sea according to Kerry County Council.
The removed material will be deposited at four sites in outer Tralee Bay.
The dredging will be completed within a month.
