« BackFather of Tralee Cheltenham Gold Cup winning jockey says win is great for Kerry

A Tralee jockey has ridden the winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Bryan CooperBryan Cooper was first past the post on Don Cossack, from the stable of Gordon Elliott.

The 23-year old is the son of Geraldine and Tom Cooper – trainer of Cheltenham winners Total Enjoyment and Forpadydeplasterer.

Bryan rode his first race when he was 14, cultivating his craft in his father’s yard and spending his school holidays in the yard of Dessie Hughes.

After school he took up a post in the yard of Kevin Prendergast – which led to his first racecourse ride in The Curragh in 2008.

He is currently retained rider for Michael O’Leary’s Gigginstown operation.
