« BackFate of N86 to be decided in courts this week

The future of the N86 road between Camp and Dingle is to be decided in the courts this week.

An Taisce has applied to the High Court to quash An Bórd Pleanála’s decision to grant Kerry County Council permission to upgrade two sections of the N86.

The case is being defended by An Bórd Pleanála and Kerry County Council. Three days have been set aside for the case to be heard in the Commercial Court this week, beginning on Tuesday July 14th.

An Taisce was granted leave to judicially review An Bórd Pleanála’s November 2014 decision which gave the €65 million project the go-ahead.

They say the route is renowned for its scenic quality and heritage.

However West Kerry Councillor Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald says the road isn’t fit for purpose.
