1pm – Young farmers should not be overly optimistic about the growth of the agri-food business, according to a leading economist. Jim Power of Friends First was addressing a Macra na Ferime conference this weekend. He warned them against investing heavily in expansion plans and machinery. However James McCarthy, chairman of the Kerry branch of the IFA, says much of the investment in machinery is justified on the grounds of health and safety.
