An expert on seagulls has suggested that politicians should put resources into investigating the behaviour of the birds rather than calling for a cull of the species.
Dr Steve Newton of Birdwatch Ireland made the comments following renewed calls in the Seanad for action to be taken on seagulls.
Cork senator, Denis O’Donovan said that seagulls were becoming ‘a threat to society’ and were invading towns and villages.
The call comes almost a year after his party colleague and Listowel senator Ned O’Sullivan said seagulls were ‘losing the run of themselves.’
