A €300,000 upgrade of facilities for the members of a South Kerry coast guard unit is due to begin shortly.
Minister Jimmy Deenihan has welcomed the signing of a contract to carry out major renovation works to provide accommodation for Waterville Coast Guard Search Unit.
Lynch Contractors from Valentia will carry out the project which will entail renovation work on two houses next to Waterville Garda Station.
Minister Deenihan says work should start within the next two weeks.
He congratulated the members of Waterville Coast Guard and praised the officer in charge, Tony Donnelly, for his leadership.
Mr Donnelly says the work is very welcome.
