Dingle is to be designated as a Gaeltacht Service Town.
Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs, Sean Kyne, has given notice of his intention to designate the town provided a language plan is agreed and implemented.
The notice officially commences a language planning process for Dingle.
Udaras na Gaeltachta will select an organisation to prepare and implement the plan and Dingle will be the first town in Ireland to do so.
Minister Kyne said that he hopes all interested parties will play an active part in further strenghtening the Irish language in both the interests of the town and the language.
