Plans to amalgamate the boys’ and girls’ primary schools in Dingle will be delayed due to budgetary constraints in the Department of Education and Skills.
An amalgamation proposal has been made by the patrons of Scoil Iognáid Rís and Bunscoil an Chlochair to form a new co-educational primary school for the town.
The Department of Education and Skills confirmed it has received a proposal to amalgamate the primary schools in Dingle.
The amalgamated proposal also sought capital works on a schools premises.
However, a statement from the Department said this would require a level of capital works commensurate with a major capital project.
The statement added that proposals with major capital implications can only be considered with the context of the Department’s capital budget and the challenges it faces in meeting national demographic demands.
