University Hospital Kerry have submitted a proposal for the development of a new, dedicated Obstetric Theatre.
However, as a consequence of a HIQA inspection of the theatre complex, plans have been revised.
In a parliamentary question to the Minister for Health, Kerry TD Brendan Griffin sought an up to date position on the provision of a dedicated obstetrics theatre at University Hospital Kerry.
In response the Health Service Executive South outlined UHK has estimated the capital funds required – along with the ongoing revenue implications – in staffing the unit.
However, as a consequence of a HIQA inspection of the theatre complex in July and August of last year, the hospital has revised the plans for the complex.
As such, an updated proposal is being drafted to address the number of infrastructural issues outlined by the inspecting body.
This work will be encompassed in a full capital submission.
The time frame for completion of the documentation for the obstetrics theatre for University Hospital Kerry is Autumn of next year.
