Kerry TD Danny Healy-Rae says he’s always made it clear that he’s a licensed school bus operator.

Danny Healy Rae 1He says there’s no conflict of interest between this, and the fact that he’s raised concerns, about a State subsidised company’s ability to submit tenders to operate school bus services.

Some private bus operators have claimed that Kerry Flyer, a not-for-profit, social enterprise company has an unfair advantage when it comes to submitting tenders to operate school transport services.

Danny Healy-Rae is among a number of politicians who’ve supported these claims.

In February, up to 40 buses were driven in a protest through Castleisland, where Kerry Flyer is based.

Kerry Flyer’s denied that it has an unfair advantage and says it’s a licensed bus operator just like the private bus companies.

It says the assertion that it won contracts through state subsidies is not correct and that its commercial work subsidisies its community activities – not the other way round.

Deputy Healy-Rae says he’s always made it clear that he’s a licensed school bus operator and that he has stated this in his declaration of interests.

He says it shouldn’t be used as a reason as to why he can’t represent people affected by this issue and he makes no apologies for making representations on their behalf.

The independent TD says he’s attended meetings in relation to Kerry Flyer in both capacities as a public representative and a school bus operator.
