The issue was raised in the Tralee Municipal District meeting.
Over 1.8 million euro is to be spent on public lighting in the county this year.
Councillors were told that Airtricity currently has the maintenance contract for public lighting in the county and broadly have responded to broken lights within the agreed timeframe.
It was also noted that in some cases a broken light can be a more complicated network problem.
The council is awaiting a national framework before a tender process for a new contractor can be decided upon.
