County councillors have passed a motion calling on Kerry Group not to dispose of the site of the former Castlemaine creamery without first exploring the possibility of industrial development.
The creamery closed its doors on September 26th and it is not yet clear what Kerry Group intends to do with the large site located on the banks of the River Maine.
At yesterday’s meeting of the South and West Kerry Municipal District, Cllr Michael O’Shea proposed that Kerry Group should liaise with state agencies to investigate the use of the site for industry.
He said this could provide much-needed employment in the mid-Kerry area.
His motion was granted unanimously.
