Additional lighting is required at Halla Lios Póil, Lispole GAA grounds and Scoil Naomh Eoin Baiste to prevent any further accidents occurring.
That’s according to Fianna Fáil Cllr Michael O’Shea, who is calling on Kerry County Council at its monthly meeting to address the issue immediately.
A motion was first moved by Fine Gael Cllr Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald at the South & West Kerry Municipal District in relation to the provisional of additional lighting in Lispole.
In response, Kerry County Council said due to constraints, including increased energy costs, it has not been in a position to provide additional lighting.
It added, under the provisions of the 2009 EU Directive on energy efficiency, the council is also required to make substantial reductions in energy consumption.
This will necessitate substantial investment in either retrofitting or restricting provision of new lights on existing network.
The council said any request to provide additional public lighting at Lispole Community Hall will need to be assessed as part of public lighting policy.
A draft policy was considered by the operations committee at its meeting last months – a full report on its recommendations is expected this month.
