Independent Councillor Michael Cahill highlighted the matter at a meeting of the South & West Kerry Municipal District.
He says many of the county’s roads are closed-in as a result of overgrown hedges and this poses a major health and safety issue for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
However, Councillor Cahill says many landowners are either in hospital, living outside the county or have passed away, leaving many roadside hedges overgrown.
The Independent Councillor adds Kerry County Council should cut the hedges to ensure all road users are safe.
In response, Kerry County Council says considering the length of regional and local roads in the county, it is not feasible to introduce such a scheme.
