A Kerry County Councillor has praised the quick-thinking of a Garda at Listowel Racecourse yesterday.
Garda Frank Stafford came to the help of a young woman who was in the River Feale at one of the entrances to the racecourse.
It’s believed the woman was taking part in a tradition known as “throw me down something” where people stand in the River Feale and ask racegoers on the overhead bridge for money.
Although the river is not very high at that point Garda Stafford lowered his utility belt to help the woman get back on dry land as she needed assistance.
